Abstract: | This article aims to identify factors explaining the high learning intensity (henceforth as: l-int.) in a small data company. The issue is clarified by departing from the organization's (here as: org./orgs.) need to upgrade its knowledge, the learning potential (here as: l-p.) of work tasks and how the challenges are met by the org's. support system (as: sp-syst.) for competence development (as: c-d). The l-int. is argued to be understood on the basis on (i) the l-p. of work tasks and (ii) the demand for upgrading the knowledge in the org. Provided the organizational context, it is assumed that it is the interplay btw. the employees' subjective learning resources ..., combined with the high l-p. of the work tasks that "trigger" the employees' learning in the workplace (as: w-p). The development oriented learning and c-d. appear to presuppose an org. structure emphasizing on indirect control and a flexible sp-syst. for c-d. that actively supports the informal learning in the w-p.
