| Abstract: | In 2000, Greece welcomed 12,5 million visitors, 2 million more people than its entire population. As a destination, it ranked 15th in the world, but it was the 10th top earner, garnering US$9.2 billion in tourism revenues. The principal venues for international tourist over 93% of whom come from other European countries, with Germany and the UK the largest source markets, are the Greek Islands and the southern part of the country. These sun and sea venues have earned Greece a reputation as a cheap summer destination for package vacationers. |
