Abstract:The impact of risks on travel consumers has been significant in the international travel and tourism industry. For tourism marketers, an understanding of how travelers react to these risks is therefore of particular interest. This study examines whether traveler self-confidence (here as: s-c.) improves the reaction to a diversity of adverse events (here as: a-events). A scale for measuring consumer s-c. when purchasing consumer products was tested. The scale is found to function well as to measuring consumer travel s-c. There are also found significant associations btw. the s-c. measure and various measures of travel behaviour in response to the a-events' influence.
