Abstract:Tourism research has been described as pre-paradigmatic and multidisciplinary. 'Poverty of tourism theory' is attributed to fragmentation, managerialism and lack of unifying theoretical perspectives characterizing empirical research. This paper analyzes 145 academic publications related to cruise tourism. The publications were analysed in terms of their content and meta-data. The analysis shows that the 'theoretical poverty' hypothesis is disputable. The paper contributes framework for placing and scoping future cruise-related research.
