Abstract:The issue of relevance concerning academic management research in organization and management is quite old and difficult. It has been proposed that more Mode 2 knowledge production could be used in this area. This conclusion has been made on the basis of purely concentrating on the research process itself and not on the products developed by the process. The author concentrates here on the field-tested and grounded technological rule, which is a possible product of Mode 2 research. Technological rules can be perceived as solution-oriented knowledge, and this knowledge can be called Management Theory, whereas the more description-oriented knowledge can be named as Organization Theory. The author discusses the technological rules in management and examines their development. Also the potential usage of technological rules in the cross-fertilization between Management Theory and Organizational Theory is explored.
