Abstract: | In the paper, the importance of networks (hereafter as: n-work / n-works) of interfirm cooperation (here as: co-op.) in biotechnology (as: b-tech.) is examined. While enabling the unobstructed exchange of information and knowledge, n-works-like co-op. is suggested to be a critical factor for companies. By applying a n-work analytical approach, two propositions are empirically tested for a regional n-work in b-tech. The findings show that the assumption of dense interorganizational n-works does not seem to hold true. Instead, there is support for the assumption that within regional n-works, a considerable number of companies are only loosely connected to the n-work's dense core. |
