| Abstract: | The importance of knowledge sharing has been firmly established, but current theories provide only fragmented insights into the origination of knowledge sharing and therefore offer limited guidance for knowledge management practices in R&D. In order to integrate and extend these fragmented insights, two exploratory field studies of knowledge sharing in industrial research organizations were conducted. The paper contributes by introducing three dimensions that differentiate origination mechanisms for knowledge sharing. It also shows that these mechanisms correspond to mechanisms assumed in literature and that each of the knowledge-sharing mechanisms has a different value for industrial research practices. |
