Abstract:Through a broad literature review, this article analyzes critically the argument that Chief Technological Officer's (CTO) organizational influence is mostly based on technical expertise and position power. The new perspective of upper level research suggests that CTO's should try to build their power on knowledge of the company and its environment, personal relationships, firm ownership and understanding of the business as well. In addition, one factor that may enhance or restrain the CTO power is the CEO's leadership style.
