Abstract:The article addresses the subject of mentoring. Junior employees often receive ethics advice and consultation from senior employees. The purpose of the paper is to study whether these mentors are really wiser or is mentoring actually based on the political skills of the mentors. Two studies are conducted with U.S. MBA students to assess the practical wisdom of mentors, using four different measures for practical wisdom. The results of the studies show no differences between those who mentor and those who do not. According to the results, however, mentors were more politically skilled than non-mentors.
