ANALYTICAL REVIEW

Abstract:The tourism industry in Africa appears to be following the economic divide that globally and increasingly sepa rates the rich from the poor. Although regional popularity rankings are forecast to change over the next 20 years, there is little tourism development light in the gloom of the continent's less developed nations. New research into the state of tourism in Africa is showing a polarization of the extreme north and south of the continent as most favored destinations for international tourists, with the southern subcontinent forecast to surge ahead in the number of international tourists drawn to its soil. If present trends continue, Southern Africa will oust North Africa from its perch at the top of the tourist arrival tree on the continent over the next couple of decades. The paper examines the future of the African tourism sector.
