Abstract:The author of the article states that in more carefree times, business gurus exalted leaders who admitted to frailty. But not any more. The task of sustaining growth in a sluggish market calls for driven, leather-skinned bosses. Whereas emotional intelligence was the mantra in the touchy-feely '90s, now it's mental toughness. The article answers the questions what is that and who possesses it. The paper also provides ten vital tough values: self belief, resilience, focus, drive, control, resolve, nerves of steel, independence, competitiveness, chillability. The paper also states that if the leader is ready for a fight, the team will follow.
