Abstract:To assess the differences in parasocial interaction (PSI), an experiment was designed that manipulated the degree of intimacy offered by a program character- specifically, the technique of "breaking the fourth wall" or stepping out of character to address the audience. The results confirm that PSI is related to program content. So breaking the fourth wall really makes viewers feel a higher degree of parasocial interaction.
