| Abstract: | This study examines the motivations, concerns and obstacles concerning the use of weather derivatives in the winter tourism industry. The results from the interviews with 61 ski lift operators in Austria show that while the majority of operators know weather risks and report notable weather exposure, using weather derivatives as a means of offsetting potential loss is rarely contemplated. |
