Abstract: | The attacks on the USA on 11 September caused the death of almost 3 000 people. The whole world was shocked by these events. Many spheres of public and economic life have been affected by the new global terrorism. This article analyses the economic consequences of the attacks. One year after the attacks of 11 September in New York and Washington, the economic effects of the new global terrorism are becoming apparent. An international conference held at the DIW Berlin came to the conclusion that, apart from the direct damage, the global economy has suffered considerable and lasting harm. The most serious damage was that to airline companies, insurance firms and international trade. |
