| Abstract: | In the Netherlands 1986 and 1987 were turbulent years for election pollsters. In 1986 opinion polls proved to be very inaccurate, though 1987 elections restored their reputation. The 1986 "disaster" has had useful effect, as the former exaggerated expectations of the accuracy of opinion polls have been corrected by experience. Polls are mainly measurements, which can have only prognostic value, but they shouldn't be regarded as prognoses in themselves. There's no danger of an embargo on the publication of polls. |
