Abstract:Eventhough social support in a working environment is considered to promote the well-beeing of employees, it is sometimes suggested that it has the reverse effects. To further study the issue, the authors tested the hypothesis that receiving imposed support elicits negative reactions, which are moderated by someoneĀ“s need for support. An experiment conducted with temporary administrative workers generally confirmed the hypothesis.
