Abstract:The proliferation of B2B e-markets has generated a growing academic interest but few empirical studies. Focus on industry-sponsored marketplaces (ISMs) - the consortia e-markets co-founded by industry leaders as e-hubs for their particular industries. This empirical study examines ISMs as an e-market type from the business buyers' perspective. Its data come from a Web-based survey of 359 purchasing professionals in the U.S. Survey results partially support research propositions depicting the relationships btw. expected benefits and perceived risks, on the one hand, and the extent of current and planned ISM usage, on the other. In addition, the results show that ISMs are regarded as much as a vehicle for market aggregation as a platform for supply chain integration to build strategic advantage.
