Abstract:When we saw the creation of a new and temporary modus operandi for the business and financial world referred to as the "dot.com phenomenon", the disdain in which academics and philosophers are held became particularly obvious. Here, the authors refer particularly to financial institutions and venture capitalists that poured billions of dollars into new Internet- and web-based companies - or in some cases just the coffers of young inexperienced technicians who appeared to have an interesting Internet business idea.
