| Abstract: | Many articles have been written about client/server technology. Most of the efforts, however, have been exhausted evaluating each new graphical user interface (GUI) front-end that arrives on the market. There has also been much said about the performance of various data base management systems (DBMSs). The key criteria that should be used when selecting the proper tools for developing a client/server application has been for the most part neglected. In order to fill this gap, the primary criteria to use when comparing DBMS products and GUIs are outlined. The propositions draw on the recent experience at the USA National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The steps that ensure a wise selection are described. |
