Abstract:The recent reform of the legal status of women in Greece is discussed. This was accompanied by new employment provisions and increase in female relative pay. The results are compared to some new results for Britain. First of all the characteristics of the Greek and British legislation on sex discrimination are compared. The new British legislation is less progressive and still falls short of many of the Community's requirements. The role of the annual central agreements and that of the collective bargaining is emphasized. A series of comparisons are made regarding female pay before and after the Equal Pay Act. Several effects of the equal pay are identified and pay discrimination left is estimated.
