| Abstract: | Information and communication technologies /ICT/ are so powerful today that comprehensive information systems of the enterprise will become reality in the near future, and each manager will become a professional user of the ICT. The design of comprehensive information systems in Germany will be supported by a traditional virtue of Allgemeine Betriebswirtschaftslehre (the German discipline of general business studies). The holistic understanding of the enterprise is discussed from three aspects: the general development of ICT and of their usage is outlined; the holistic understanding of the enterprise is considered; the foundations of a methodology for information systems design are presented. |
