| Abstract: | The advantages of venture capital are discussed. Its strategic value in the formation of alliances between small, high-tech companies and large, mature corporations is outlined. Approaches to using venture capital as a business development tool are evaluated. The traditional venture capital partnership is described. Functions of speciality venture funds are highlighted. Problems of internal funds are identified. Guidelines are recommended to minimize both financial risk and the short-term organization cost associated with setting up an external venture fund. The commitment of top management and the clear understanding of the objectives are emphasized. |
