Abstract:Empirical research of planning effectiveness show considerable conceptual and empirical deficits and the dominant hypothesis of a positive impact of planning on company performance can neither be regarded as confirmed nor as rejected. Due to the lack of a suitable empirical basis, this statement becomes even more evident for internationally operating companies. An attempt is made to link the international and the planning dimension with situational relativity in order to explore the question of in what situation planning is likely to have what impact on company effectiveness.
