Abstract:Textile washing products is the largest sector of the household cleaning products in the UK. Recent trends of the market are examined. The main sector is heavy-duty washing products: traditional liquids and compact powders (either low suds or high suds). The light-duty sector includes powders and flakes for handwashing delicate fabrics and quality woollens. In 1990 volume consumption rose 1.5 percent over 1989. Retail sales amounted to GBP 730 million, a growth of 11 percent over 1989. Concentrates replaced liquids as the fastest moving sector. Sales of fabric conditiners are set to peak. A steady growth in usage for several product sector is foreseen, especially washing liquids and stain removers, but a decline in fabric conditioners is expected.
