| Abstract: | During the past decade there have been major changes in ownership and this issue has become increasingly prominent in discussions on the role of the modern manager. This article examines the degree to which managers invreasingly participate in ownership of the firms in which they are employed. The extent to which they own shares in other companies is also assessed. In addition, managers' views on which interests should be promoted by the organization are an important consideration and any changes over time are clearly of relevance to management theory and practice. |
