Abstract:There is a thesis stemming from Chandler via Galbraith and Nathanson that there is a fit of business strategy and organizational structure with consequences for performance. This article examines companies in New Zealand and provides an empirical test of the generality of the strategy/structure fit and performance thesis. The article seeks to answer the question, how much effect does the strategy/structure fit have on performance relative to other determinants of performance?
