Abstract: | Particularly in the implementation of manufacturing strategy, manufacturing engineering management is becoming central. Process positioning decisions are related to the deployment of internal manufacturing engineering resources during the equipment acquisition process. Manufacturing engineering plays differing roles in this process, depending on whether the equipment represents a radical or an incremental innovation. These roles require differing types and levels of interaction with suppliers and other groups within the firm, and argue for expansion of the manufacturing strategy model to include these decisions. |
