| Abstract: | In the course of the increasing degree of competition in the telecommunications sector customers have been facing more and more varying tariffs for telecommunications services. Elements of these tariffs in the case of the telephone service are for example: start-up payments like access charges, monthly fixed charges and call charges. In this paper a special problem of call charges arising from pricing with the help of discrete intervals of metering is considered. Depending on their conversation behavior the customers exhaust these intervals to a greater or smaller extent. Thus, a standard for comparisons of alternative tariffs, which refers to the empirical customer behavior as exactly as possible, is proposed. The advantages of this cost standard are also demonstrated in a practical case study. |
