Abstract:When managers expend a great deal of effort without visible results, they are likely to feel special kind of exhaustion. In his 1981 article this author, a well known psychologist, suggests ways in which top management can help prevent executive burnout. In his retrospective commentary, he notes both how little and how much have changed over the past 15 years.
