| Abstract: | This article is part of a wider research programme, which involves several tasks. One is a clarification of the GATS notion of trade and the conceptual differences between the modes of supply; the second task is an assessment, on the basis of available evidence, of the relative importance of services sectors and the modes of supply in each sector. The previous empirical research on trade in services is quite limited. |
