Abstract:The subject of this paper is education, colleges and universities. The author focuses on the role of universities on knowledge expansion and transmission. The paper provides an identification of social and technical changes in education and considers the monopoly of delivering education. The paper also pays attention to the equilibrium between demand and supply of the expansion. The author states that a natural consequence of this debate is to consider whether universities can continue to be the template for the extension and transmissions of knowledge. What follows are some speculations on this question with the future of Buckingham in mind, but relevant to the consideration of the future of other British universities.
