Abstract: | Decline causes managers to dislike and avoid one another, hide information, and deny responsibility. The article explores the psychological aspects of corporate turnarounds. The experiences of three companies are described: Gillette Co, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Invensys Inc. According to the article, the only way a chief executive officer (CEO) can reverse a corporate decline is to change the momentum empowering people anew, replacing denial and secrecy with dialogue, blame etc. with respect, avoidance etc. with collaboration, and passivity and helplessness with initiative. |
