Abstract: | This article theoretically examines the concept of separability (hereafter as: separ.) used in production theory. It criticizes the standard notion that separ. is of limited relevance for empirical studies and introduces a new definition of separ., empirical dual separ., which is based on cross-price elasticities. This concepts helps researchers to find possible incorrect cross-price elasticities and then to decide whether to omit factors such as energy from the empirical analysis. |
