Abstract:New firms' entry into markets plays an important role in efficient resource allocation and evolution for long term economic growth. Using dynamic panel data techniques, this paper explores entry behaviour in 66 (4-digit) Turkish manufacturing industries (here as: manf-inds.) from 1993 to 1999. It is found that potential entrants observe the market before the entry takes place. The entry is, in general, a follow-up process, and incumbent firms seem to collude to prevent entry in Turkish manf-inds. Furthermore, the real interest rate seems to be a very important determinant for entry decisions.
