| Abstract: | The international trader has gradually come to recognize that the use of goods and services as a means of payment has come to stay. With this recognition goes a need to understand the conditions for success. Variants of counter-trading (barter deals, counter-purchases, buy-backs, switch traders, offset deals, compensation trading) are reviewed. Benefits to companies as well as to countries are summarized. Disadvantages are listed too. Several guidelines for prospective counter-traders are formulated. |
