| Abstract: | Although the strategic advantages of using information technology (IT) are substantial, little hard information has been available regarding IT use. Results of a survey of 95 major US corporations go a long way toward filling this gap. The survey data are summarized in three exhibits covering strategic uses of IT by industry, noting the impact of IT applications upon revenues, and assessing the effects of IT upon company sales growth. All these aspects of survey results are analyzed and commented. Suggestions for corporate management and Information Services departments are provided helping IT strategic applications. The role models of IT generalistys as well as high level business generalists are discussed. |
