Abstract: | Cowboy management is defined as a romanticized picture of rugged individualism and unbridled competition. To know when to compete, and the issues of inside and outside competition are discussed. Suggestions are made to appoint a market manager who isn't from any of the three divisions; to form a market council with representatives from all three divisions; to make a small portion of the bonuses for all three divisions on the total performance of the whole company in the market creating incentives for cooperation; to move people across the divisions making it clear that career extends beyond a single division. The final conclusion is summed up as to managing the initial structure to de-emphasize competition rather than the conflict later. |
