Abstract:The development of pension schemes in the United Kingdom is reviewed. Advantages and disadvantages of the money purchase schemes are considered. Age of retirement is brought into relationship with the pension schemes. The State Earnings Related Pension Scheme is described. The task of the trustees of a pension scheme is defined as being responsible for investing the funds accumulated in a pension fund in the best interests of the members. A number of technical decisions to be made by the managament of organisations is listed. The future of the company pension schemes is outlined.
