Abstract:The relationships presented, which are response curves relating the stock cover of a multi-item stock system to a small number of overall characteristics, namely the average re-order interval, the average lead time, the average monthly demand per item and the overall service level, allow the manager to investigate the aggregate stock as an entity in itself. Thus these response curves have an important role in aiding management decision-making in several areas of stock control. Some examples of use of curves are given, including a comparison with some actual figures aggregated from individual items.
