Abstract:Recent studies have suggested that increased variability of demand (lumpyness) increases the total variable cost of the optimal schedules for various dynamic lot-sizing algorithms. The research looks at the effect of variability on 1,600 distinct combinations of demand level and variability. For each combination, 100 random normal demand patterns are evaluated. The average TVC for each 100 schedules is calculated, and computer graphics are used to show the relationships.
