Abstract:Models and conditions of risk attitudes are discussed that imply special types of expected-utility functions, and obey the normative principles implying that preferences between lotteries are in accordance with expected utility. First, conditions are described that correspond to different choices of an arithmetic operation that measures the changes in consequence. Second, the condition for one consequence is presented where a pair of indifferent lotteries depends linearly on a consequence in the other lottery. Procedures are discussed for using one of the conditions to model the risk attitude of public or private decision groups.
