| Abstract: | How do companies organize their research and development activities? R&D systems are examined in several major industrial groups. Based on this analysis, seven key elements are identified which constitute both factors of performance and competitiveness. It is argued that e.g. the difference of organization of R&D between Nestle and BSN reflects the essential differences in terms of corporate culture. To increase performance, an R&D system should consider definitely global as well as specific R and A. For the success of innovation within the company, appropriate human resource management of the researchers is highly important. |
