Abstract:This paper examines the evolution of plant size distribution in Luxembourg. Conventionally, plant size distribution is assumed to be approximately log-normal. The recent paper by Cabral and Mata (2003) shows using Portuguese manufacturing data that the plant size distribution is significantly right-skewed and only over time it evolves to become more log-normal. This study uses data collected by Luxembourg Social Security. The results of the study are in line with those of Cabral and Mata (2003). However, this study reveals that the size distribution of very old plants reverts back towards right-skewness. In addition, financial constraints are driving the observed right-skewness in the plant size distribution.
