Abstract:The study explores the phenomena of ecotourism and its influence on communities in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Ecotourism is known as enhancing conservation, especially when it has a positive influence on economic change. The study was made analysing three Amazon ecotourism projects where local leaders discussed what kind of changes ecotourism have had in their communities. The findings revealed that ecotourism is seen as a positive phenomenon for the local people. However both positive and negative trends were identified by local leaders. The trends can either strengthen of weaken social cohesion, trust, and cooperation within communities.
