Abstract:Technical obsolescence is a serious and growing problem afflicting information service professionals. A commitment by IS employees and their employers to ongoing education can help eradicate a lapse in professional development that often strikes professionals after the age of 40. After this age, pay outdistances performance of the average IS professional, as the diagram of the salary-performance gap shows. A view of the company as caretaker has also to change in the question of education of its employers.
