Abstract:In most industrialised countries noise is considered one of the main causes of declining quality of life. All the forecasts point to further deterioration unless energetic measures are taken. Genuine country-wide noise abatement strategies have been set up only in Switzerland and the Netherlands. They have introduced incentives to purchase low-noise vehicles and taxes to finance noise abatement.
