| Abstract: | The subjects of the article are competition and Government policy in European Union countries. The paper also considers the consolidation & merger of corporations in European Union countries and industrial policy in European Union countries. The article discusses developments in business competition in European Union countries in 2001. The paper pays an attention to issuance of formal prohibition orders on mergers of corporations and considers companies involved in merger planning. The article lists consolidations approved by the European Commission from August to October 2001 and states that European participation in the US-led fight against international terrorism has challenged the cohesion of the EU. |
