Abstract:When China launched its Economic Reforms and Open Door Policy in 1978, large numbers of foreign investors were immediately attracted to its market of a billion people, the largest in the world. Most knew little about doing business in China and still less about the way in which its unique cultural and authoritarian government would control their success. Few realized the amount of time it would take to reap a profit or the significant commitment required.
