Abstract: | Empirical research reveals that relocations (hereafter as: reloc./relocs.) of corporate centres (here as: c-c./c-cs.) are most times confined to national borders. Until now, cross-border relocs. are almost absent in the European Union (EU), while in the United States (U.S.) relocs. across State borders appear to be common. To contribute to a managerial understanding of these phenomena, this paper proposes a conceptual framework of the determinants of the c-c. location. Based on an analysis, it is predicted that the stickiness of the c-cs. of EU-based corporations will diminish due to the EU integration process and in particular triggered by the expected EU legislation regarding the removal of legal barriers against corporate mobility. |
