Abstract:China has an inland boundary line of 22, 800 km, neighbouring 15 countries. Nine provinces and regions along the border which occupy over 60% of the area of China are all underdeveloped. But this paper thinks that the economy in these areas will likely develop extraordinarily by attracting foreign direct investment with their rich natural resources and low labour cost and with the frontier trade as guide. To this end, the strategic thought on the regional development should be adjusted and the policy environment for investment in these areas improved.
